OurPower reports a door-to-door impersonation scam where people claim to be SASSA officers visiting homes to update grant details, verify beneficiaries or replace cards.
Fraudsters pose as SASSA officials arranging or conducting home visits, then ask for grant cards, PINs, banking passwords or personal documents under the pretext of verification or card replacement.
Different pages, same playbook — matched by what they do, not just the brand.
SASSA fact-check warns about fake SASSA home visits, where people claim a SASSA officer will visit to update details, check a grant or replace a card. The warning says genuine officers do not ask for cards, PINs or banking passwords.

Updated 6 October 2026: phone callers impersonate SASSA agents and ask for an OTP, PIN, password, or banking details to “verify” an account. SASSA will not phone beneficiaries to request OTPs or PINs.
