UCT CSIRT’s Phish Bowl lists a 3 October 2026 email from notification@uif.email titled ‘Urgent: Outstanding Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Payment’. It falls just outside the 3-day window but is South-Africa-relevant and recently listed by a security team.
Email impersonates UIF/payment notification and uses urgency around an ‘outstanding UIF payment’ to lure recipients into opening or responding, likely to harvest credentials or personal/payment information.
Different pages, same playbook — matched by what they do, not just the brand.
A recent South African scam report describes an email falsely claiming a Letter of Demand has been issued and pressing the recipient to click 'View Court Document'.
SAPS/SABRIC warn about phishing, vishing and smishing in which fraudsters impersonate banks or service providers to obtain banking credentials and other confidential information.
